Slideshow version 0.4

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Yesterday I tagged version 0.4 of my slideshow plugin (and 0.93 of the underlying inlinerss plugin), and upgraded this site to use it.

The surprise new feature that I managed to knock together over the weekend is a full-screen mode. It was easy at first, taking a couple of hours on Saturday, but then I looked at it in Internet Explorer and it was a mess. The sooner IE6 is dead, the better. 7 is a huge improvement.

Zooomr needs your help

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

If you’ve used Zooomr, go help them out with a small donation. They need new hardware fast to get their latest version up and running. Get the full story here.

Get the donate link at the bottom of this page. We’re trying to give Kristopher a nice surprise when he wakes up in the morning.

Zooomr RSS feeds changed

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

The Zooomr team seem to have fixed their feeds now, as Flickr did in December. This means that all plugins that use XSLT to transform a Zooomr feed need to change their “media” namespace declaration, as outlined in the link above.

If you’re using my slideshow plugin you should either update to the latest version from wp-plugins.org, or hand edit your forward.xslt and reverse.xslt files to add the / on the end of the media namespace definition.

Jumping the sun on the salt flats

So cool! Wish I’d thought of this.

I spotted it via Flickr Hits, which I spotted via Zooomr Hits. Both fascinating photo blogs by Chris Sansbury.

Rockbox

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

I’ve had my Rio Karma now for over a year, and I’m half expecting it to die on me. So, I’m keeping an eye eye out for a replacement for when that sad day arrives. So far Rockbox on an iPod looks like my best bet. I could even get Linux on there for extra geek points.

Interestingly enough, both the Karma and the iPod are based on the same underlying technology, PortalPlayer. I wonder if anyone’s going to get Rockbox onto a Karma.

Ken Rockwell

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

It’s just occurred to me that I should give a nod to Ken Rockwell. I really like his work, and his website is a great source of information for people taking up photography. In particular, I set up my Nikon D50 based on his setup guide. His advice on patience and technique is inspiring, and helped me get some good photos with my new camera, even on my first expedition round edinburgh the night I got the camera.

Fiddling with Zooomr

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

I discovered Zooomr today, and expect to use it for storing my photos while I’m on holiday in Canada. If I’m suitably impressed by it, I might even move my entire photo page to it. Having only used it for a few hours, Zooomr already looks pretty nifty, letting me specify where the photo was taken, showing a map too.

Scott Monument and the Balmoral, Edinburgh

So, here’s my first attempt at hooking in a photo from my Zooomr profile, hopefully meaning I can get a snazzy pro account in the process!

See here for more info on getting a free pro account yourself. I couldn’t find out the exact difference between the normal account (also free) and the pro account, but I think it means a huge monthly upload limit, an unlimited space quota, and no adverts. You can’t sniff at that, really.

Getting all high tech

Monday, July 10th, 2006

I’m getting ready for the Canada trip to visit Elaine, so I thought I’d set up a blog to post anything interesting along the way. I’ll put up my favourite photos too, if there are any really good ones.
